Privacy Policy
This page explains what Daily Ferment collects when you read it or sign up, and what the services it runs on do with that. Last updated 23 October 2026.
Who runs this site
Daily Ferment is written and run by Rana Bilal Zafar. Questions about this policy, or requests about your data, go to hello@dailyferment.com.
If you only read
You can read everything here without an account. The site still sets some cookies and sends some data to the services below, mainly to count visits and, once ads are running, to serve them.
If you sign up
Signing up stores your email address, and your name if you give one, in Ghost, the publishing platform this site runs on. It is used to sign you in and, when newsletters are switched on, to email new pieces. It is not sold or shared with anyone else. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask me to delete your account at any time.
Services that process data
- Ghost hosts the site and the member list. Ghost privacy policy.
- Google Analytics counts visits and how pages are used: pages viewed, rough location, device and browser, and where the visit came from. It uses cookies. Google privacy policy. You can block it with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
- Cloudflare handles the domain's DNS and forwards mail sent to hello@dailyferment.com. Cloudflare privacy policy.
- Google AdSense serves ads on this site (see the next section).
Advertising and cookies
This site uses Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site or other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info, or at youronlinechoices.eu if you are in Europe.
Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services here: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Ads may also come from other ad networks that Google works with. You can see and manage those vendors through the opt-out links above.
Managing cookies
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking them will not stop you reading anything here. If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you will be asked for consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change that choice later.
Links to other sites
Pieces link to their sources. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which this one does not cover.
Children
This site is written for adults and does not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it.
